McAllen, TX — On March 24, 2026, automotive supplier Valeo broke ground on a $225 million, 215,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in McAllen — the largest single industrial investment in Hidalgo County history. The facility is being developed at the McAllen Nearshoring Industrial Park by CiL Capital.
The Details:
The Product: The plant will produce liquid-cooled central computing devices for vehicles — a single unit that replaces multiple smaller computing systems and serves as the "brain" of the car.
Why McAllen: Valeo cited the region's workforce, educational partnerships with local universities including UTRGV, and proximity to existing operations in Reynosa, Mexico. CiL Capital's shovel-ready, build-to-suit industrial park helped McAllen win a highly competitive site selection process.
The Jobs: Approximately 500 positions in engineering, quality, logistics, finance, human resources, and skilled assembly, with production slated to begin late 2027 for General Motors and other customers.
The Shift: McAllen EDC President & CEO Elizabeth Suarez highlighted the move from tier-two maquiladora work to high-tech "brain" manufacturing as a turning point for the region.
Why It Matters: The investment reinforces the Rio Grande Valley's emergence as a destination for advanced manufacturing — bringing high-skill, high-paying jobs to one of Texas's fastest-growing regions.
