Governor Abbott Announces NRG Energy Expansion In Houston

Austin, TX — Governor Greg Abbott announced on February 17, 2026, that NRG Energy Inc.'s planned 455-megawatt natural gas power plant at its Greens Bayou facility in Harris County has been designated as a qualified project, according to a press release.

The $617 million project, expected to begin operations in 2028, will add power to the ERCOT region.
